Aquarium Pyramid®

With 1.5 million gallons of water and more than 10,000 marine animals, the Aquarium Pyramid showcases the complex beauty of the North Pacific, South Pacific, South Atlantic and Caribbean in four exhibits within the 10-story blue-glass aquarium building. The pyramid also includes tide pools, “touch tanks” and unique viewing opportunities as well as underwater classrooms and learning experiences for guests of all ages.

The popular Aquarium Pyramid, a $50 million investment that opened in 1999, is divided into four regions, corresponding to the points on a compass. Each region represents a different area of the oceanic world.

Caribbean Exhibit

The Caribbean is as the largest and most remarkable exhibit in the Aquarium Pyramid®. Sharks, sea turtles, eels and thousands of beautiful tropical fish swim overhead as you navigate through an underwater tunnel completely surrounded by the exhibit's one-million gallons of water.

South Atlantic Exhibit

See King, Chinstrap, Rockhopper, Gentoo and Macaroni penguins frolic in their natural habitat in this enclosed Antarctic exhibit. The exhibit is patterned closely to the rocky beaches of South Georgia Islands with two levels of viewing above and below the surface. You can also meet a penguin up close in a Penguin Encounter.

North Pacific Exhibit

Watch harbor seals as they play on the rocky shore and dive below the water's surface. A tide pool with sea urchins, anemones and other colorful marine creatures is only a few feet away. A spectacular kelp forest showcases the rich and diverse underwater world from Northern California to the Gulf of Alaska.

South Pacific Exhibit

This exhibit takes you on a journey into the depths of the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, featuring a serene tide pool with vivid sea anemones and sea urchins. Stroll to the lower level for an underwater view to see more than 200 species of fish, stingrays and sharks and their beautiful & complex environment.

Now Featuring Sharks in Depth: The Exhibit

Sharks In Depth, the latest exhibit in the Aquarium Pyramid® at Moody Gardens®, explores shark fact versus fiction, anatomy and behavior through a series of hands-on activities. Visitors can learn how a shark survives without a swim bladder, how they sense prey through vibrations and smell, what currently threatens shark populations and more.
